MCM Birmingham Comic Con has officially wrapped, taking place this past weekend with a jam-packed show full of pop culture panels and events.

With so much taking place over the long weekend, we pulled together some highlights from the show floor and panels so you don’t miss out on anything.

Friday saw Ghost of Tsushima star Daisuke Tsuji’s panel on the Live Stage. The actor discussed his role as Jin Sakai, his favourite games and his work on stage.

At the panel, Tsuji also revealed that he auditioned for The Last of Us Part 2, saying: “That was in a room with Neil [Druckmann] and Laura Bailey, who was playing Ellie. I can talk about that now. I auditioned for Jesse, but I didn’t get that. I know what I did wrong too! In my mind Ellie was young, because of the first game, so I was trying to play young – like I’m a little kid – instead of just being myself. Playing the game, Jesse’s an adult – even if he’s young he’s lived through a life of zombies, so he’s very mature. I was like, ‘oh I should have just been myself’. Which is always the acting thing, always be yourself. You always try to be the thing that you think that they want.”

Elsewhere, two loved-up sword masters got engaged at the Forest Glade LARP Zone right as day began, kicking off the weekend with a lovely moment. You can see the moment on the MCM Instagram accounts’ stories.

Saturday highlights include The Mayor of Solihull, Shahin Ashraf MBE attending for her first visit to MCM Comic Con. She browsed the wares of many artists, met a few of MCM’s authors, and was in awe of the talented cosplayers.

Day 2 concluded with the God of War cast – Chris Judge, Sunny Suljic, Danielle Bisutti & Alastair Duncan - gathering to talk about their experience working on the hit games.

Sunny admitted to adjusting how he portrayed Atreus based on the opinions of Twitch streamers: “I took a lot of Criticism because I made a fake on Twitch, and I would watch other streamers play (God of War). I would have an alias and ask: ‘So, uh, what do you think about the kid in God of War?’ And they would be like: ‘Oh he’s such a brat.’ So I transitioned my character a bit.”

Danielle hinted that she would be open to working on a standalone Freya game: “Whenever Santa Monica Studios says to me: ‘Let’s explore more of Freya’, I would love to see where her relationship with Kratos goes - such a beautiful friendship forged from grief and transformation.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 was back on Sunday with a panel on the main stage, the cast spoke about the roles they’ve always wanted to play. Emma said: “I’d love to be in Marvel, so if that can be organised...” and that she’d “also like to be in Alan Wake, that would do me. I think that game looks phenomenal” with Samantha offering to introduce her to Sam Lake: “Do you want me to introduce you to Sam? I’ll give you his number.”

Dave Jones mentioned wanting to be in the sequel to 2023’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves: “It was a really good film; I can’t see them not making another.” whilst Neil Roberts wants “to play Hugh Grant in his life story.”

Separately, Neil spoke about how he had no idea the game featured romance: “When I recorded [his voice lines] I didn’t do any of the [grunting noises]”, with Samantha interjecting:  “Neither did we, Alex Jordan likes to claim that he did all the male... rude noises...we didn’t do that - we had specialists come in!”

Neil noted that it wasn’t until he saw gameplay on YouTube that players could customise their genitalia: “Even forming your bodily parts, I was quite shocked, I had no idea.”
